TimFerris: I think that sometimes it’s like roller derby, and sometimes you’re jamming and sometimes jammed, and sometimes people get cut off or thrown out, but in the end the teams move forward together as groups, and everybody learns to cooperate and to give respect as it’s due and as it’s earned–there should be no adulation of idols in roller derby–or in a community conversation in America–we’re all there as community members, or as player/participants. There are no celebrities. In the same vein, for all who participate, there are no real losers in roller derby or in the MTB format–it’s just that there are different finishes, from game to game; it’s the playing of the game that’s the thing.
