At Squarespace, the world’s most talented engineers, designers, and thought leaders are shaping the future of online publishing.
Many Squarespace employees are working from home at this time. As we closely continue to monitor the status of COVID‑19, we have opened some of our offices to employees who have chosen to return and provided proof of vaccination. In preparation for our broader return to office plans, we have rolled out our Flexible Work Philosophy to ensure a safe return and flexibility for our Squarespace employees.
Our flexible work philosophy
At Squarespace, we believe in building a culture that embraces individuality while cultivating collaboration and creativity. We care about the needs of our employees and appreciate the varied ways in which people do their best work individually and together. We also care about curating physical spaces that empower teams to come together and spark great ideas. Providing flexibility while recognizing that there is no substitute for face to face collaboration are both important elements of our overall work philosophy.
Flexibility at Squarespace isn’t new and all roles at Squarespace are flexible in one way or another. Before the pandemic, Squarespace embraced flexible work - 13% of our employees were fully remote, while most in-office employees had flexible schedules.
As we look to the future of work, we are increasing our existing flexibility. We believe that flexibility increases productivity and satisfaction, decreases our carbon footprint related to commuting, and enables us to attract and retain a more diverse and inclusive workforce.
Squarespace’s Flexible Work Policy outlines two distinct work classifications - Officespace and Homespace - designed to help foster an inclusive and collaborative environment. In the same way that there isn’t a one size fits all solution for our customers, there isn’t a one size fits all approach that will work for every individual and every role. So we have empowered individuals, their managers, and department leaders to determine the appropriate approach to flexible work for them. The type of flexibility needed will vary based on the role - with consideration for whether the role needs to have face to face collaboration and interaction, and the ability for that role to be done remotely vs. in the office.
1.Officespace - employees who spend at least some of their week working from a Squarespace office location. Each Officespace employee’s work schedule is agreed upon between them and their manager and approved by their department head, with some being fully in-office and some having flexible schedules. Depending on their role and how often they are in the office, some Officespace employees will have assigned desks while others will participate in hoteling of desk space.
2.Homespace - employees who spend all or the majority of their time working remotely and do not have a desk in a Squarespace office. Fully remote positions are currently available for designated roles at department discretion.
We also believe in the advantages of face to face interaction and collaboration, so curating an enticing office experience remains a priority for us. Our office is so much more than a place people go to work. Each of our offices has been built to draw people together, inspire to create, and foster community. It’s more than a workplace. We invite all who enter to find a space that feels their own. It’s a collective. It’s our space.
Whether you’re Officespace or Homespace, we aspire to foster collaboration and connection between everyone at Squarespace.
We’re looking for people to join the team who are as excited as we are to help build the platform that empowers the future generation of creators to be successful online.
Perks & benefits
Relax, we’ve got you covered.
We take care of our employees in more ways than one. Our competitive benefits package includes premium medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and their dependent children. We also offer up to 20 weeks of paid family leave, fertility and adoption benefits, daily gourmet lunches and snacks, and more.
We believe that quality time outside the office is vital to our employees’ satisfaction at work. That’s why our flexible PTO plan encourages team members to take time off so they can come back refreshed. Employees also get two free lifetime Squarespace sites to pursue their creative passions and side hustles.
We’re dedicated to ensuring all employees have the information they need to do their jobs well. Our monthly All Hands meetings, email newsletters, and CEO Office Hours are just a few of the programs we run to bring our three offices together and share key aspects of the business across the entire organization.
We value our people.
We’re serious about sharing in Squarespace’s successes. All employees receive an equity package in the company as part of their total compensation, and we match up to 4% of a team member’s annual salary in 401(K) (US) or Pension (Ireland) contributions.
We give back.
We anonymously match any donation our employees make (up to $/€ 600) so they can support the organizations they care about most—times two. We also arrange programming for team members to volunteer at specialized customer workshops and community activities.
Live it up.
One benefit of having amazing coworkers is enjoying each other’s company, and we make up some good excuses to have fun together. Squarespace’s weekly catered happy hours are a great way to connect with coworkers and unwind after the week. Throughout the year, we host programming ranging from crafting to trivia and customer markets. During the summer, we throw family-friendly events and activities, and our holiday parties have been known to get fancy.
