use it or lose it

In honor of the new software, I'm using the blog here on RealNEO again, just to keep a hand in it.

Wouldn't it be neat if you could, on your own blog, aggregate feeds from all your other stuff, at least as links?

Independents

For an old dog you sure know a lot of tricks :) Sometimes, it pays to be an independent in the world of blogging, especially, if there are other players calling the shots. Then again, as a solo blogger, you can find yourself performing as a one-man band with an audience of none. Here at RealNEO--you can have it both ways. Roldo covers all the bases by posting at multiple sites.

Roldo and Tim are excellent with social computing

Roldo and Tim know how to use social computing well, with a strong presence in many dimensions... but then they have valuable insight to share.

Tim, I look forward to you using your blog and voice more here - always of interest

ubiquitous content providers

I love that I can read Tim and Roldo here and elsewhere. I comment elsewhere, too, but reserve my postings for realneo.

Maybe folks could consider posting their other blogsites in their profiles so we can wander over and see what they post elsewhere. Tim does and Jeff Schuler does, too. Haven't checked too many others... still, it's a good way to telescope the real NEO social networking community.

Any chance of a link to a list of members?

Telescope

Great metaphor, Susan.  We need to keep perspective, here. Otherwise, why bother posting at all?
BTW, Jeff--is there a preferred browser to use with Drupal?

Browsers and Drupal

Laura,

Your choice of browser should make little-to-no difference to Drupal itself, but might change how the site theme (layout/design) looks.

You can use Browsershots to see how the REALNEO is rendered in different browsers. (The screenshots will expire in a few days.) The site renders pretty consistently across platforms.

That said, I know that TinyMCE, (the WYSIWYG editor we use in text boxes,) isn't fully tested with Apple's Safari browser; you might find issues there.

Blogroll

How can we add to the blogroll?  I would like to add Political Science 216 and Tremonter.  (And, of course,  GCBL, jeffschuler.net and Passport Project would be nice, too, but does that make everything too complicated?).

Thanks!

Blogroll... participants

Laura,

Seems like you read a lot of websites. You might want to try out using a feed reader, like Google Reader (my preference) or NewsGator, which lets you read and manage your subscriptions.

I've included your suggestions on the REALNEO blogroll, but I have to remind again of our decision that criteria for inclusion in it would be active participation in the REALNEO community.

Are things "too complicated"? I don't know. I guess complication happens when I make an issue about what should and shouldn't be included. ;)

I'm happy to act on whatever is protocol, but I don't want protocol to get in the way of usefulness, like when the blogroll is too {big / small / unfocused / fine-grained}.

You (plural) decide.

elsewhere blog in profile

Good suggestion, Jeenmaz.

Reminds me I've been meaning to look into evaluating what profile fields are available.

Right now, user profiles are only viewable by logged-in users. If you're browsing as Anonymous, usernames don't appear as links... Does this make sense? It does encourage shedding of anonymity to find out more about others, but it maybe closes the doors a bit to a telescoping NEO (I like your phrase!)...
